Blessed to Be a Blessing

Before you twist up your mouth at the title -- just hear me out. Anybody that knows me knows I am more spiritual than I am religious. I believe religion is a construct...spirituality is a way of living, a lifestyle if you will.

Now that we've gotten that out of the way, I've been sitting back and thinking over my life. There has been good, bad, ugly, and indifferent. Not much different to anyone else's life, right? There's one thing I've noticed I can do much better though...I can talk about the good as much as I complain about the bad and ugly.

We are all guilty of it. We just don't like to admit it.

Here's the thing -- Nothing we have came to us solely by our own merit. This is not a competition to see whose higher being or deity is better. Believe in who you want or what you want -- God, Allah, Buddha, karma, your pet fish, or even the universe...no judgment here. Whether you realize it or not, whatever/whoever you believe in gives you the strength and the courage to carry on. My choice has always been God. I understand that may not work for everyone...and that's okay...He works for me.

Often times, it is easy to focus on the bad things that are happening to the point where it consumes you. In those moments, you forget all of the good that is going on around you -- funny huh? Even when things are going well, we are hesitant or even afraid to say anything because of what people might think. The irony of that is, it doesn't even matter what people think. Why? Because we are blessed to be a blessing, and we need to remember to act accordingly.

What does that even mean?

Being blessed to be a blessing doesn't you make it a point to go show off what you have or make announcements every time something good happens to you. It also doesn't mean you give away everything you have just to prove a point or "check a box". Being blessed to be a blessing means that you've been shown grace...and that when an opportunity presents itself (which it will), you should show grace as well. That grace may be shown in the form of a donation, volunteering, a random act of kindness, or even choosing not to respond how you usually would when you really want to.

So with that being said, always be proud of your accomplishments and don't ever let anyone dim your light. You never know, your light might be the only brightness someones see in their life...even when it is a mere flicker. I'm not sure what's next for me but there are some areas of my life I can show some more grace. As I work on that, I'll leave you with this to think about -- What areas in your life can you show more grace in?
